Not knowing what to write for my next piece, I inadvertently decided to write for a trio that included two instruments I was quite unfamiliar with:  clarinet and bassoon. Inspired by the dark, rich characters of these dynamic instruments, I wrote to explore and find homogeneity between the three despite their largely distinctive timbres.
